Scholls, Ore. August 8, 2014–According to Washington County Oregon Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man for DUII and other charges after a homeowner fired a handgun in close proximity to keep him from fleeing after a crash.

On August 7, 2014, at 11:16 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence located in the 17800 block of SW Hillsboro Highway in the community of Scholls. A vehicle reportedly crashed onto the property and was attempted to flee the scene when the homeowner fired a gun to stop the driver from leaving.

Multiple Sheriff’s Deputies responded and were able toquickly secure the scene and confirm that there wereno injuries. Deputies found Hunter Tintera, 27, from Newberg, was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty when he failed to negotiate a curve on SW Hillsboro Highway. He left the road and crashed on 58 year-old James Attaway’s property. There was substantial damage to a fence, tree and yard caused by the Jeep.

Mr. Attaway reportedly heard the commotion and wentoutside with a high caliber handgun. It was learned that Mr.Tintera reportedly attempted to flee the scene in the Jeep anddrove through Mr. Attaway’s property coming within a fewfeet of the house. Hunter Tintera’s Jeep sustained heavy front end damage and two flat tires making it difficult to operate. It was reported that Mr. Attaway fired his handgun into the ground repeatedly until Mr. Tintera stopped the Jeep and complied with his commands.

Deputies believe alcohol and speed were contributing factors in this crash. James Attaway’s involvement will be sent to the Washington County District Attorney for charging consideration.

Hunter Dewolf Tintera was arrested and lodged in the Washington County Jail. He was charged with DUII and Criminal Mischief. He was held on $5,000 bail and has since been released.

Citizens are reminded that if they see illegal activity and if possible, to move to an area that is safe and call 911 to report the incident.

San Jacinto, CA – Some think if they just don’t show up for a court hearing, the police won’t have the manpower to come find them.  If your violation is a DUI, don’t count on it.  San Jacinto Police Department Officers with dozens of outstanding arrest warrants fanned out into neighborhoods in search of high risk DUI offenders today. Officers served warrants and arrested 7 offenders who either failed to show up for a court date or violated terms of their probation in an outstanding DUI case.

“The best bet for anyone with a missed DUI court date is to go to court on their own now,” said Sergeant Robert Himmelberg “If you don’t, that warrant isn’t going away. We’re going to come find you and take you to jail.”

Those caught often face additional jail time for failing to appear in court or for violating probation. When family, friends, and co-workers find out, violators can also face personal embarrassment as they are lead away in handcuffs, as well as missing work while sitting in jail.

Special DUI Warrant Service Operations along with regularly scheduled ‘High Visibility’ DUI enforcement has a deterrent effect on those who disregard driving safely and abuse alcohol and drugs.  The San Jacinto Police Department places a high priority on lowering deaths and injuries with the goal of removing impaired drivers and heightening awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Funding for the operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Report Drunk Drivers; Call 9-1-1!

Marquis Edwards DUI and murder in fatal Santa Cruz Ca CHP 081414

From Contra Costa Times

SANTA CRUZ — A 23-year-old Fresno man was charged with murder Wednesday for a car crash on Graham Hill Road that took the life of his ex-girlfriend, a 24-year-old woman from Aptos.

Marquis Edwards, who authorities say drove a rented 2014 Ford Fusion into a wall on Graham Hill Road early Saturday, closed his eyes and took a deep breath in court Wednesday afternoon as Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge Paul Burdick read the charges against him.

Edwards, who did not enter a plea, was charged with murder, felony evading an officer causing death, felony evading an officer while driving against traffic and special allegations of great bodily injury and being on felony probation, according to court documents. Edwards also was charged with a misdemeanor of driving with a suspended license with a DUI conviction.

He faces life in prison if convicted, Burdick said in court.

Kingsport Police Dept. Tenn

KINGSPORT, TENN.  — 08/15/2014As previously released by the Kingsport Police Department, on June 9, 2014 at approximately 2:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol and Traffic Units responded to Interstate 81 at Mile Marker 64.8 in reference to a single vehicle crash. Their subsequent investigation revealed the following:

A red 1992 Geo Tracker was northbound on Interstate 81 at mile marker 64.8. The vehicle was occupied by driver, James C. Hoover, and front seat passenger, Jackson David Meadows.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway into the median. In an attempt to return the vehicle to the traffic lane, Mr. Hoover appeared to have overcorrected, sending the vehicle into a yaw. The vehicle spun sideways in the traffic lanes and then rolled repeatedly down the interstate.

Mr. Hoover was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Mr. Meadows was not wearing his seatbelt either; however, according to witnesses, he was not ejected and crawled out of the vehicle under his own power immediately following the crash.

Mr. Meadows received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County E.M.S. Mr. Hoover sustained critical, life threatening, injuries and was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Wellmont One helicopter. Mr. Hoover succumbed to his injuries and died at 3:59 PM after his arrival at Holston Valley Medical Center.

This crash investigation has remained open by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit pending toxicology results.

On August 7, 2014, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Laboratory submitted the toxicology results revealing that Mr. Hoover had a blood alcohol content of 0.26 at the time of the crash. As Mr. Hoover’s blood alcohol content was over three times the legal limit, driving under the influence has been determined to be the most significant contributing factor in the crash.

DUI hit-run death of bicyclist
Aug. 16, 2014 – Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds announces that a Marietta man will spend five years in prison for the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist that occurred in April 2013.

Damon Thomas Latuch, 28, pleaded guilty Thursday morning to homicide by vehicle in the first degree.

Assistant District Attorney Marty First said the evidence would show that Mr. Latuch had been out drinking at a bar with friends in the hours before the fatal crash on April 10, 2013, that he had been told at two different times in those hours that he was too drunk to drive, and that he had refused to let someone else drive.

Yet Mr. Latuch was driving his pickup truck on South Marietta Parkway near the CCT station before dawn that morning when he struck Joseph Gathambiri, a deaf man who was riding his bicycle to work, ADA First said. Mr. Latuch did not stop, and he later told coworkers he had hit a deer in that area.

Mr. Latuch was arrested by Marietta Police investigators hours after the crash. He has been free on bond since May 20, 2013.

On Thursday morning, Cobb Superior Court Judge Lark Ingram sentenced Mr. Latuch to 15 years, with 5 years to serve in custody and the rest on probation. He was also ordered to pay the victim’s family more than $9,000 in restitution.

Marietta attorney Clay Thompson represented Mr. Latuch.
