Peter Neill WRDE reporter’s booze cruise Coastal Highway wrecked a Mercury and his car.

From The Beach News

DEWEY BEACH, DEL. — Amazingly, there were no serious injuries after a drunk driver sped down the wrong side of Coastal Highway after a crash in Dewey Beach early Sunday. The area was packed with late-night bar patrons and other vehicles.

The accident occurred around 12:03 a.m. Sunday as a gray Volkswagen Jetta headed south on Coastal Highway and collided with another car at the intersection of Dickinson Avenue at the new Hyatt.

A Dewey Beach police officer on patrol at New Orleans Street had spotted the Jetta speeding through town about 25 seconds prior to the crash. Police say the vehicle, driven by Peter Neill, 22, of Dagsboro, had been changing lanes erratically.

The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the Jetta. But before the officer could catch it, police say Neill disregarded the traffic signal at Dickinson Avenue and smashed into this Mercury Grand Marquis, which had been turning north onto Coastal Highway. Neill kept going.

After the impact, the Mercury remained in the intersection and Neill’s Jetta crossed into the north-bound side of Coastal Highway and continued south. He finally struck the median near Van Dyke Avenue and came to a halt.

Police say Neill was taken to Beebe Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Police later charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol and several other motor vehicle violations. The operator of the Grand Marquis was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Peter Neill is a reporter at WRDE, the new local NBC-affiliated TV station serving the Rehoboth area.  see MORE FROM THE BEACH NEWS

Darien firefighter John Dowling, who normally risks his own life to save the lives of others, is now charged with being a rolling death machine when DUI.

From Stamford Advocate

DARIEN — John J. Dowling, 43, of 100 Hope St., Stamford, a volunteer Darien firefighter, was arrested Aug. 11 on charges of operating under the influence and failure to obey a stop sign.

An officer on patrol saw Dowling, who was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, travel through a stop sign on Ledge Road at the entrance ramp to Interstate 95 south around 1 a.m., according to the report.

Dowling appeared confused when he was pulled over and smelled of alcohol, according to the report. He told police he was coming from a picnic.

Dowling also told police that he was from Darien and that he has “been running that stop sign for over 20 years,” according to the report. …MORE

Przemyslaw Nagorski DUI Darien Police

Przemyslaw Nagorski DUI Darien Police

According to Darien Police, at approximately 11:40 hrs the Darien Police Patrol Division received a radio broadcast regarding a green Nissan pick-up truck which was driving erratically.
Two Darien police officers were on special duty traffic assignments on Leroy Ave. near West Ave. when they observed the vehicle traveling south toward them.
Both officers were wearing “Hi-Viz” yellow uniform shirts identifying them as “Police” officers as they were directing traffic around a construction area. The first officer gave a signal for the southbound traveling pick-up to stop, however the vehicle continued.
The officer was forced to move out of the way and the vehicle then drove over several traffic cones that had been in part of a traffic pattern. The second officer also gave the signal for the vehicle to stop and he too was forced to jump out of the way as the vehicle narrowly missed striking him.
The description of the vehicle was then broadcast to other officers and was located a short time later in a parking lot in the nearby downtown area.
The operator was identified as Przemyslaw Nagorski, age 26, of Avery St. in Stamford. Nagorski was exhibiting signs of intoxication and was asked to submit to a series of sobriety tests which he subsequently failed.
Nagorski was placed under arrest and his vehicle was towed. During his booking process, it was determined that Nagorski’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was nearly four (4) times the legal limit. Nagorski was then charged with DWI, Reckless Operation, and Disobeying The Signal of an Officer. He is currently being held on $500.00 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 18, 2014. Neither officer was injured in the incident.

From Columbia County Observer

By Stew Lilker

COLUMBIA COUNTY, FL –  Just days away from jury selection and a full blown trial and a week after County Court Judge William F. Williams, III denied Mr. Kirby’s motions to dismiss the charges against him and suppress the testimony of one of the State’s key witnesses, Columbia County’s number two, Kevin Kirby, had a change of heart.

Tuesday afternoon at about 2:30 pm, in a hastily arranged court appearance, Mr. Kirby agreed to take the standard first time offender DUI plea agreement and pled guilty to driving under the influence. Mr. Kirby’s license remains suspended. He is on supervised probation.

At the present time it is not clear if Mr. Kirby can drive a county vehicle, although since the time of his arrest for drunk driving, Mr. Kirby has been spotted being driven around by different county employees. His $108,000 job as public works director/operations manager makes him responsible for all the roads in the County. It is not clear how he can do his job and not be able to drive. ….MORE

From WACH

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (08/21/2014) – A deputy coroner with the Lexington County Coroner’s Office has been arrested on DUI charges.

Barry Wright was arrested August 19 on driving under the influence charges and accused of having an open 24-ounce beer in his vehicle.

According to an incident report, Wright was found asleep at the wheel of his county-owned Ford Explorer shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The report goes on to say the car was still running and parked in the middle of Kleckley Drive.  A West Columbia police officer knocked on the window to wake up Wright.

Authorities say Wright told the officer he had consumed “one beer” and when asked about the open beer in his car, Wright responded “I thought I was at the house.”
