According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Adam Elders, on December 6, 2014 at about 4:07 a.m. officers from the Coachella Police Department responded to the 50600 block of Suncrest St. regarding a report of a vehicle colliding into a wall. The investigation revealed that Victor Rodriguez, age 19 of Coachella, was driving his Ford Mustang while under the influence of alcohol and collided with a wall inside the apartment complex. Rodriguez was not injured but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution prior to being booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio.

Police report that on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 6:31 P.M.  the Coachella Police Department responded to a traffic collision that occurred on Harrison Place at Dillon Road in Coachella.  A blue 2004 Nissan Sentra, driven by Israel Hernandez, age 29 of Mecca, rear-ended a gray 2010 Nissan Sentra, which was stopped on Harrison Place, waiting to make a left turn into a business driveway.  Neither driver sustained any injuries as a result of this collision.  Both vehicles sustained only minor damage.

The investigation revealed that alcohol was a factor in this collision.  Israel Hernandez was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.  He was treated at a local hospital as a precaution, prior to being booked at the Riverside County jail in Indio.  The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Coachella Police Department at 760-863-8990 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP (7867).

Savannah Grimes slid to a stop on her roof; busted for DUI

On Thursday, December 4, 2014, at 11:06 p.m., La Quinta police officers responded to Adams Street, north of Corporate Center Drive, regarding a minor-injury traffic collision.

Officers arrived and learned a silver 2-door Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Adams Street just north of Corporate Center Drive and collided with the center median. The vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest on its roof in the southbound lanes of Adams Street.

The driver and sole occupant of the Honda, Savannah Grimes, 19, of La Quinta, was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. Our investigation has revealed that alcohol was a factor in the collision. The charge of driving while intoxicated will be filed with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

According to Sgt. Mark Hoyt of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department on Friday, December 5th, 2014, at 9:52 PM, officers from the Indian Wells Police Department responded to a four-car vehicle traffic collision on Hwy 111 west of Eldorado Dr. in Indian Wells.

The investigation determined the driver, Alejandro Parra, 30, of Escondido, had been driving eastbound on Hwy 111 when he collided with Volkswagen  stopped for a red light.  The collision forced the Volkswagen to veer into the left turn lane and collide with an Infinti waiting to make a left turn.    Parra’s vehicle continued eastbound and collided with another Volkswagen stopped at the intersection for the red light.  It was determined intoxication may have been a factor in this collision and Parra was booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio for driving under the influence.  No one was injured as a result of this traffic collision.

“Flipper” Profus flunked the basic task of driving with wheels down; busted for DUI

On Friday, December 5th, 2014, about 11:07 PM, officers from the Palm Desert Police Department responded to a single-vehicle rollover traffic collision on Hovley Lane East and Oasis Club Dr., Palm Desert.

The investigation determined the driver, Shane Profus, age 24 of Palm Desert, had been traveling southbound on Oasis Club Dr. when he struck the south curb of Hovley Lane East. The impact caused the vehicle to flip and land on its top.  Profus was not injured as a result of the collision.  It was determined intoxication may have been a factor in this collision and Profus was booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio for driving under the influence.

SAN ANTONIO — A DWI case against a South Texas appeals judge who failed a field sobriety test in July was dismissed last month, the McAllen Monitor reported Wednesday.

Nora Longoria, a 13th Court of Appeals judge, was pulled over last July while going 69 mph in a 55 mph zone in the Rio Grande Valley city. Longoria, who failed a field sobriety test but refused a Breathalyzer, showed an officer her judicial badge and asked him to let her go home, the Express-News reported after the July arrest.

Hidalgo County Court at Law No. 8 Judge Rolando Cantu dismissed the case on Nov. 20, according to the Monitor, but the dismissal was not immediately available online.

A McAllen police officer said he saw Longoria driving a silver two-door Lexus at 69 mph in a 55-mph zone around 1:30 a.m. in July, according to the records. During the traffic stop, the officer noticed Longoria had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol and administered field sobriety tests, which she failed, the officer wrote. …..MORE

A cooperative effort between the Maryland State Police, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Natural Resources Police, Ridgely Police Dept. and the Greensboro Police Department netted the arrests of 2 suspected impaired motorists.

The arrests stemmed from operation Checkpoint Strikeforce which was conducted at Rt 480 S/of Crouse Mill Rd. The operation was conducted between 9:00 pm Saturday night through 2:00 am Sunday morning. 83 vehicles were checked during the operation. The Checkpoint was manned by 7 State Troopers, 3 Caroline County Sheriffs Deputies, 2 Department of Natural Resources Police officers, 2 Officers from Ridgely Police Department and 2 Officers from Greensboro Police Dept. Also in attendance were Caroline County States Attorney Jonathan G. Newell, Chief Gary Manos of Ridgely PD and Chief Jeff Jackson of Greensboro PD.
During the Checkpoint, No motorists were pulled to the side for additional field sobriety testing.
Saturation Patrol of Caroline County during the checkpoint yielded 2 arrests for DUI. One of those arrested was also charged criminally for resisting arrest and assaulting a State Trooper. No officers were injured during the event.

DECEMBER 11, 2014–During a recent traffic stop, a Wisconsin motorist who has nine prior drunk driving convictions on his record explained that the reason a sheriff’s deputy smelled booze on his breath was because he had just eaten beer-battered fish at lunch.

John Przybyla was pulled over by a cop who spotted the 75-year-old’s vehicle driving erratically. When the Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputy approached Przybyla–who was driving on a revoked license–he recognized the “smell of a moderate odor of an intoxicating beverage emitting from his breath.”

Westampton Township New Jersey Police officers

According to Westampton Township Police, on November 24, 2014 at approximately 1800 hrs, patrols were dispatched to the area of Rancocas Road and East Park Drive for a motor vehicle accident. Once on location, officers located a four car accident with minor injuries.

One of the drivers, later identified as Muhammad Khan (Mt. Laurel) was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Khan was subsequently arrested and was taken to Virtua Hospital in Mt. Holly.

Khan was charged with DWI and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Court Date pending. Ptl. Welthy was the investigating officer.

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrest of 58 year old, MARIE BRIAMONTE, of Paramus, New Jersey, on charges of Death by Auto. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Fatal Accident Investigation Unit under the direction of Chief Carmen MARTINO and the Elmwood Park Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael FOLIGNO.

On Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at approximately 10:50 p.m., the Elmwood Park Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle collision with a pedestrian who had been struck in the area of the intersection of Route 46 West and Bank Street in Elmwood Park. Officers responding to the scene determined that Marie BRIAMONTE, who was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry, had struck MANINDER SINGH, a 48 year old North Plainfield, New Jersey man, who had crossed the highway near the intersection. As a result of injuries suffered during the collision, Mr. SINGH was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Officers at the scene made observations that led them to believe that Ms. BRIAMONTE was driving while intoxicated.

As a result of a cooperative investigation conducted by members of Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Elmwood Park Police Department, it was determined that at approximately 10:50 p.m., on December 9, 2014, Ms. BRIAMONTE was driving west on Route 46 when she struck Mr. SINGH, who was a pedestrian crossing the divided highway. The location of the incident was determined to be within 1,000 feet of the Gantner Avenue School in Elmwood Park. A blood sample was taken from Ms. BRIAMONTE, who appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the collision, and will be submitted for toxicological examination.

MARIE BRIAMONTE was charged with one count of violating N.J.S.A. 2C:11-5, Death by Auto while driving in violation of R.S. 39:4-50 (DWI) within 1000 feet of the Gantner Avenue School. The investigation is ongoing and Ms. BRIAMONTE was also issued summonses for motor vehicle violations including Driving while Intoxicated and Reckless Driving. Ms. BRIAMONTE was released on bail set at $150,000 with a 10% cash option by the Honorable Anthony Gallina, Elmwood Park Municipal Court Judge. Her first appearance in Elmwood Park Municipal Court has been scheduled for 1:00 p.m., on December 16, 2014.

Prosecutor Molinelli states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Elmwood Park Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.

Deputies Arrest Man After He Flees Traffic Stop – DUI And Other Charges

Utah County Sheriff Jim Tracy reports that a 53-year-old Springville man is in jail after he led Sheriff’s Deputies and Officers from other agencies on a pursuit through several Utah County cities.

On December 11, 2014, at about 4:10 PM, a Deputy with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office stopped a man he knew to be driving with a driver license that was suspended due to a previous DUI arrest. During the course of the stop the man, Kevin Val Christensen, age 53, of Springville, became agitated and left the scene of the stop. The Deputy who stopped Christensen began to pursue him. Other Deputies followed as Christensen reached speeds in excess of 95 MPH on US Highway 89 coming out of Mapleton entering Springville.

The original location of the stop was Rodeo Drive and Eldorado Drive in Springville and Christensen drove south from Springville, into Spanish Fork, into Mapleton, then back into Springville. He ended up at his home near the location of the original stop. As Christensen drove into Mapleton an Officer with Mapleton Police was able to deploy a spike strip which caused the left front tire to slowly deflate. After Christensen pulled into the driveway of his home he refused to get out of his truck, was combative, and strongly resisted efforts of Deputies and Officers to take him into custody.

Christensen has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1981. That record includes at least 5 previous arrests for DUI, at least 3 of which ended with a conviction for DUI. More recently Christense was arrested for DUI on 10/29/14 but another Utah County Sheriff’s Deputy. During that arrest Christensen became combative with the Deputy. His history also includes an incident on 12/6/14 where Christensen fled from Mapleton Police. They were unable to detain him during that incident.

Christensen sustained abrasions to his forehead during his altercation with Deputies. He was treated at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo and is booked into the Utah County Jail on the following charges: DUI-Drugs, Fleeing/Evading, Exhibition of Speed, Suspended Driver License-Per Se, Possession of Methamphetamine by Use, Littering, Resisting Arrest and Reckless Driving. Christensen was also booked on numerous traffic violations.

The second trial of a Byrnedale man, charged in a fiery 2012 crash that claimed the life of his passenger, has ended in a first-time guilty verdict. An Elk County jury on Friday found 27-year-old Brandon Weidow guilty of homicide by vehicle with DUI and related charges in the death of 23-year-old Savannah Straub of St. Marys. ….MORE

Ridgway-based state police say Brandon Michael Weidow, 24, Byrnedale, was driving a 1991 Mercury Cougar north on Route 255 near Cleveland Street shortly before 3 a.m. The vehicle went out of control and hit a tree, a guiderail and the retaining wall of a bridge. Savannah Opal Straub, 23, St. Marys, a passenger, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.  

In one of the most bizarre remembrances for a drunk driving victim, the front yard of a house in which Weidow left the roadway and killed Savannah Straub was turned into a mock cemetery, an annual Halloween rite for the homeowners, and dedicated in 2012 to the woman’s memory.

Fairfax County Police in Virginia conduct a sobriety checkpoint.

Holiday lights, parties, and festive celebrations are underway in Fairfax County and across the region. The Police Department reminds residents and motorists to enjoy celebrations safely this December.

Police have stepped up alcohol enforcement and education efforts with extra DWI patrols, sobriety checkpoints and social media messaging to help ensure safe roadways.

Police have made almost 5,000 impaired driving arrests over the past two years. (2,582 in 2013 and 2,262 YTD 2014) Additionally, officers have investigated 1,078 alcohol related crashes in the past two years.

There were 23 sobriety checkpoints held in 2014 which resulted in 58 DWI arrests. In 2013, officers arrested 59 impaired drivers at 28 checkpoints.

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) recognized PFC Vince Vella, of the Mason Police District at their annual regional law enforcement awards program on Friday, December 12. PFC Vella has arrested 322 persons for DWI over the past five years.

Police urge residents to make their travel plans in advance of holiday parties by designating a sober driver as drunk driving continues to be a serious roadway danger

“Drunk driving continues to pose a threat to all who drive our roadways,” said Captain Mike Grinnan, Commander of the Fairfax County Traffic Division. “We want the public to know that it continues to be a serious problem and police are targeting reckless driving behaviors.”

At today’s ceremony and media event, the police department welcomed partners in the fight against drunk driving from the Washington Regional Alcohol Program and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. WRAP also introduced a new masked “Superhero” named SoberWoman. She attends community events, restaurants, and bars to encourage sober driving.

Friday Night Joyride into Tree Kills One, Sends 5 to Trauma Unit

MOUNT AIRY, MD. — Four men who were in a pickup truck that left the roadway Friday night in Howard County and overturned after striking a tree have been convicted of DUI in Maryland, including one who was killed in the crash.

The others, one of whom has two prior DUI convictions and may have been the driver, are now in a trauma unit, along with two other occupants of the overturned truck.

Howard County police report that they are investigating the single-vehicle collision that occurred on Shaffersville Road in Mount Airy on Dec. 12, 2014 just before midnight.

Police say that their preliminary investigation reveals a 2001 Ford F-350 pick-up was traveling northbound on Shaffersville Road between Shaffers Mill Road and Long Corner Road. The vehicle left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree. Howard County Police did not disclose which one of the occupants of the vehicle was the driver of the truck.

Maryland court records show that a 2001 Ford – the same year and make of the vehicle in the crash – was being driven on Feb. 14, 2014 by Karl Joseph Tomanek, one of the occupants of the truck that crashed. On that date, Tomanek was cited for DUI on Md. Rt. 27 at Twin Arch Road near the fire department grounds by Maryland State Trooper Michael Karas. Tomanek entered a guilty plea on May 15, 2014 and was sentenced to six months in jail with the sentence suspended by the Judge in Carroll County District Court. He was fined $300 and put on supervised probation. Tomanek was represented by Laurel attorney C. Michael Walls.

Tomanek had run up a prior DUI eight years ago.

He entered a guilty plea in Howard County District Court on Aug. 1, 2006 to a charge of DUI after being stopped on Centennial Lane at Frederick Road on April 5, 2006 by a Howard County Police Officer.  Tomanek was fined $350 and sentenced to six months in jail with all of his sentence suspended by the Howard County District Court Judge.

Tomanek was ticketed for speeding at the rate of 83 mph in a 65 mph speed zone on I-70 on Aug. 7, 2014. He entered a guilty plea on Oct. 15, 2014 and was fined $134.50 in Howard County District Court.

An occupant of the vehicle, James Nichols Dejordy, 26, of 5509 Trotter Road, Clarksville, died in the crash. Five other occupants were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in stable condition.

They have been identified as: Devon Elaine Markowitz, 24, of Woodbine; Seth Stevens Jackson, 23, of Dayton; Karl Joseph Tomanek, 28, of 1170 Shaffersville Rd., Mt. Airy; Andrew Brooke Stabler, 33, of Mt. Airy, and Jeffery Paul Feldblum, 25, of Highland.

Shaffersville Road was closed to thru traffic until 4:30 am on Dec. 13th as part of the investigation. Police say that the collision remains under investigation.

Maryland court records show that Dejordy was cited for DUI on Feb. 17, 2013 by Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy K. Radcliffe. In Carroll Court District Court on June 6, 2013, he entered a guilty plea and was given probation before judgment by the court. Dejordy was fined $100 and put on supervised probation.

Andrew Stabler, one of those taken to a trauma center, was cited for DUI on May 26, 2006 by a Maryland State Trooper as he drove on Ridge Road at Blacksmith Road in Carroll County.  He was given probation before judgment in Carroll County District Court on Sept. 20, 2006 and fined $242.50 and no jail time.

Maryland court records also show that a fourth member of the Friday night joyride has been convicted of drunk driving. Jeffrey Paul Feldblum, of 6790 Santa Lucia Drive in Highland, Md., was stopped while driving northbound on Rt. 219 at Mountainview Drive in Garrett County on Feb. 25, 2012 by Maryland State Trooper A. Nelson and cited for DUI. In Garrett County District Court on May 1, 2012, he entered a guilty plea and was given probation before judgment, fined $500 and sentenced to ninety days in jail, with all of the jail time suspended. In addition, the judge also suspended half of the fine.  Feldblum was represented by Hampstead attorney Michael A. Stoner.

Neither Jackson nor Markowitz had any Maryland DUI arrests or convictions.

RACINE, WISCONSIN – Racine Police report that Tarance L. Bryant, 33, of Racine, Wi, fled the scene of a two-vehicle wreck which occurred early on Dec. 13, 2014. 

The wreck took place at 13^th St. and South Memorial Drive in the city of Racine. When police arrived at the crash they said that a vehicle was upside down on its roof with a woman trapped inside while the other driver fled the scene.

Tarance Bryant fled the scene of a fatal crash, he is charged with DUI homicide in Racine County, Wisc.

The woman died as a result of her injuries.

Bryant was arrested for a second OWI offense, homicide by vehicle while intoxicated and hit and run resulting in death.

He is being held in the Racine County Jail, according to Sgt. Jessie Metoyer.
