Joseph E. Deldeo Sr., 42 of Millsboro, was a left rear seat passenger in the 2003 Saturn Ion and was not properly restrained during the crash. He was initially transported to Beebe Healthcare before being flown to Christiana Medical Center where he died Feb. 8, 2016.

Dillon Davis faces DUI manslaughter charges in fatal wreck at Long Neck Del.

The 21-year-old female of Millsboro has since been released from the hospital.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident and additional charges may be forthcoming.

The initial investigation determined that the crash occurred Sunday, January 17, 2016, at approximately 12:14 a.m., as Dillon Davis, 23, of Millsboro, was operating a 2003 Saturn Ion and was traveling in a northbound direction on Long Neck Road while approaching Bay Road, Millsboro. Davis then lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to round a curve. The Saturn then left the roadway and struck a tree where it came to rest.

Deldeo, as well as a 21-year-old female passenger in Davis’ car, were both removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Beebe Medical Center. They were then both flown by Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 2) to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where they are being treated for serious injuries.

Dillon Davis, who was not injured in the crash, was transported to Troop 7 where a DUI investigation ensued. Davis was subsequently arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, two counts of Vehicular Assault 1st Degree, Possession of Marijuana (3 grams), and three counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned at JP Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $6501.00 secured bail.

Maryland State Police Impaired Driving Effort

While Maryland troopers were locking up drunk drivers on Super Bowl weekend, TFC John Dize Jr. wrecked while driving drunk – goodbye career

(PIKESVILLE, MD) — As hard as police officers across the nation work to take DUI drivers off the road before they kill someone, there is always some knucklehead cop who believes he or she has the right to drive intoxicated. The knucklehead cop in this story is Tfc. John Dize Jr. of the Princess Anne Barrack in Somerset County.

The success of the Maryland State Police effort to remove drunks and drugged drivers from highways was great over the Super Bowl weekend but somewhat muted by the idea that one of their own was acting in a remarkably selfish and criminal way that could have ended with the death of a Marylander at the hands of a state trooper.

Cops shouldn’t rob banks or drive drunk.

The public should remember that when a cop is arrested for DUI, it means another law enforcement officer is doing the job right.

As some Super Bowl fans were on the offense, many troopers across the state and the S.P.I.D.R.E DUI team were on the defense this past weekend making more than 50 DUI arrests, according to Cpl. DaVaughn Parker of the State Police.

The Maryland State Police conducted traffic enforcement initiatives throughout the state during this Super Bowl weekend. Troopers made numerous traffic stops focused on impaired or distracted drivers, aggressive and speeding motorists, as well as those who were not properly belted in the vehicle.

During the three-day enforcement initiative more than 4,700 vehicles were stopped by troopers across the state. Preliminary statistics revealed more than 2,900 traffic citations were issued along with more than 2,900 warnings.  Also, 51 motorists were arrested for drunk driving.

The S.P.I.D.R.E DUI team was deployed to Baltimore County for Operation 40/40, a multi-jurisdictional traffic enforcement initiative. Collaborating with 11 law enforcement agencies, efforts were focused on Route 40 from the Baltimore City line to the Delaware state line. As a result of the collaborated effort, 30 motorists were arrested for drunk driving.

Just before 11:00 p.m. on February 6th, troopers from the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Hudson Corner Road and Landon Store Road, in Marion, Md. Troopers found a pickup that reportedly drove off the road into a field.

The driver of the vehicle was found to be an off-duty state trooper, identified as Trooper First Class John Dize Jr., assigned to the Princess Anne Barrack.  Trooper First Class Dize sustained injuries and was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Due to the possibility of alcohol being a contributing circumstance to the cause of the crash, an immediate investigation was conducted.

Trooper First Class Dize was subsequently charged with failing to obey designated lane directions and driving under the influence. Trooper First Class Dize was immediately suspended with pay.

In an ongoing effort to educate motorists, additional traffic initiatives will continue throughout the year to reduce injuries and fatalities on Maryland roads. Maryland State Police will continue these initiatives in support of the Maryland Highway Safety Office’s ‘Move Toward Zero Deaths’ campaign.

Chad Campbell sentenced to 12 years in prison for DUI homicide in deaths of motorcyclists Joseph Lorelli & Traci Chapman in his DUI hell-ride at 96 mph

Nicholas A. Iarocci, Esq. Ashtabula County Prosecuting Attorney Ohio

Nicholas A. Iarocci, Esq. Ashtabula County Prosecuting Attorney Ohio

JEFFERSON, OHIO — Ashtabula County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas A. Iarocci reports that on February 12, 2016, Chad Wyatt Campbell was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison as a result of being convicted of two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, each of which is a felony of the second degree, and one count of operating a Vehicle under the Influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Campbell also had his driver’s license revoked for the balance of his lifetime.

This case stems from the tragic crash which occurred on June 21, 2015 on State Road in Plymouth Township when Campbell, who was driving substantially in excess of the posted speed limit at an estimated speed of 96 MPH shortly before impact and who was significantly under the influence of alcohol at the time, failed to yield to a motorcycle turning left.

The accident resulted in the deaths of Joseph Patrick Lorelli and Tracy L. Chapman, occupants of the motorcycle. Campbell, who had no prior criminal or traffic record prior to this incident, faced a minimum of four years and a maximum of sixteen years in prison as a result of the convictions.

“The unfortunate and tragic deaths of Mr. Lorelli and Ms. Chapman represent two of the six traffic fatalities that occurred in Ashtabula County in 2015”, according to Nicholas A. Iarocci, Ashtabula County Prosecuting Attorney. “Three families have been devastated by Campbell’s exercise of poor judgment, and he will now have 12 years in prison to think about this catastrophe and the lives that were lost as a result of his actions every minute of every day.”

The State of Ohio was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Robert C. Jeffries and the Defendant was represented by David per Due in this proceeding held before Judge Gary L. Yost who handed down the sentence.

Iarocci commended the Ohio State Highway Patrol for what he said was responsible for the thorough and outstanding investigation that resulted in the subject convictions and sentence.

Coward Campbell fled the scene and left his victims to die on the roadway

From Star-Beacon

A preliminary investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol said both vehicles were traveling north on State Road near Garrison Road in Plymouth Township when the crash occurred. The motorcycle was about to turn onto Garrison Road when Campbell’s vehicle slammed into it from behind. Lorelli and Chapman were thrown from the bike and the unmanned motorcycle continued off of the left side of the road and landed in a ditch.

Keith Stewart of the Ashtabula County Coroner’s office said Sunday that the truck rolled numerous times off the road after striking the motorcycle, but Campbell was not seriously injured.

Campbell reportedly fled the scene on foot after the accident and was later apprehended by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.  …MORE

Jamie Webb sent to prison for 14 years for DUI murder of Michael Collins

In one moment your decision changes lives. Decatur High School (Federal Way, WA) students Nicholas Hodgins and Derek King were killed alongside I-5 when a driver made the decision to drive drunk. They would have graduated in three days.

NOTICE: This data base of the DWI Hit Parade is a great FREE resource for credit managers, law enforcement and background investigations for private sector as well as government screenings of prospective employees. Those who are impaired are advised not to drive after ingesting drugs or alcohol as doing so and being arrested can cause serious negative experiences for obtaining employment…and could kill someone. If your name appears on this site and you believe you have proper cause to have it removed, provide such information to staff@clean-search.com to determine eligibility for complete removal from this listing.
If you have killed someone and been convicted of being responsible for that death while operating impaired, don’t bother. The engravings of victims of impaired drivers are forever on grave markers. If you missed the ABC 7 Washington Special Report by Jay Korff on the DWIHitParade.com here it is!

Three-week court session leads to convictions of 23 impaired drivers

Charlotte, N.C. –  District Attorney R. Andrew Murray reports that over the course of a three-week period, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Misdemeanor Appeals Team tried five defendants and convicted a total of 24 defendants. Of those 24 defendants, 23 were convicted of impaired driving offenses. The proceedings were held November 30-December 18, 2015, before The Honorable Carla N. Archie, The Honorable R. Stuart Albright, and The Honorable Lisa C. Bell, Superior Court Judges.

Two defendants were convicted at trial, while 22 others were convicted when they pled guilty or remanded their cases to District Court for sentencing. Prosecutors also made arguments in a case appealed by the State after a District Court Judge previously ruled in favor of the defendant on a matter of law. The judge granted the State’s appeal.

The Misdemeanor Appeals Team prosecutes cases in which the defendant was convicted in District Court and then appealed his or her conviction to Superior Court for a jury trial, as allowed under North Carolina law.

Alan Hoffman, 54, was tried for driving while impaired. The jury returned a verdict of guilty.  Judge Archie sentenced Hoffman to 30 days in the Mecklenburg County Jail; that sentence was suspended pending his successful completion of 12 months of unsupervised probation and 24 hours of community service.

Judge Archie sentenced Reyes to 6 months in prison; that sentence was suspended pending his successful completion of 12 months of supervised probation. Montgomery County Police Chief Manger Urges Residents to Contact Elected Officials to Support Noah’s Law and Additional DUI Bills

Luis Gustavo Reluzco 3 time DUI offender killed Mont. Co. Md. Officer Noah Leotta

Luis Gustavo Reluzco 3 time DUI offender killed Mont. Co. Md. Officer Noah Leotta

On the day that Montgomery County Officer Noah Leotta died, Chief Manger spoke to the media about Officer Leotta’s sacrifice. Chief Manger became impassioned when talking about the driver who was under the influence of alcohol when he killed Officer Leotta – the driver who had previously been arrested three times for driving under the influence (DUI) offenses.

The sitting Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted* Luis Gustavo Reluzco,a 47, of Rolling Meadow Way in Olney, for striking and killing Montgomery County Police Officer Noah Leotta (Lee-ah-ta).  Reluzco has been indicted on the following charges: manslaughter by automobile and failure to make a lane change or slow to a reasonable or prudent speed upon approach of an emergency vehicle on a highway (commonly referred to as the “Move Over Law” – Maryland Transportation Article 21-405).  Luis Gustavo Reluzco had a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of .22 when he struck Officer Noah Leotta.

At approximately 1:05 p.m. Feb. 11, 2016, Reluzco turned himself in at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office; Reluzco was accompanied by his attorney.  Reluzco was transported to the Central Processing Unit.  Bond information is not available at this time.

(*N.B. An indictment is not a finding of guilt.  It is merely a formal charge until and if the defendant is found guilty in a future judicial proceeding.  All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law).

In honoring Noah’s sacrifice and in working to prevent impaired-driving tragedies in the future, Chief Manger is collaborating with various people and agencies to include the following:

  • Several legislators in Annapolis to strengthen the laws and penalties for drunk and impaired driving.  (Proposed bills are described below).
  • The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office:
    • To ensure that prosecutors are in agreement that strong prosecutions are needed, especially for repeat DUI offenders.
    • On the development of a Court Watch program that involves volunteers who would observe court cases involving repeat DUI offenders and monitor judges’ sentencing decisions.
  • The Department of Corrections to ensure jail time is given to DUI offenders and that home detention is not an option.
Officer Noah Leotta died after being hit by DUI driver in Rockville Md 121015

Officer Noah Leotta died after being hit by DUI driver in Rockville Md 121015

The Chief is urging community members and state-wide law enforcement personnel to support his efforts to make changes to the laws that pertain to driving while impaired. Chief Manger stated, “I believe these changes are important and will make travel safer for everyone on Maryland roadways; these changes will save lives. I am asking that residents contact their delegates and senators and urge them to vote ‘YES’ on the following bills”:

Noah’s Law – Mandatory Interlock for all Persons Convicted of Driving While Under the Influence (DUI)

DWI checkpoint Rt 228 Waldorf 121615 dedicated to Montgomery Officer Noah Leotta

DWI checkpoint Rt 228 Waldorf 121615 dedicated to Montgomery Officer Noah Leotta

Delegate Kramer and Senator Raskin of Montgomery County have introduced legislation that will require interlock devices to be used by all drivers convicted of impaired driving. Presently under Maryland law, only persons who are convicted of DUI with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15 or more (.08 the legal limit in Maryland) and repeat offenders are assigned interlocks by the Motor Vehicle Administration.

Enhanced Penalties for Offenses of Manslaughter by Motor Vehicle and Homicide by Motor Vehicle while DUI

DUI crash scene Rockville Md 120415 Officer Leotta critical. NBC 4 Washington photo

The Chief is also asking the legislature to increase the penalties for anyone convicted of driving while impaired that results in a death of another person. Currently, the maximum penalty that a person faces for causing the death of another while operating a motor vehicle is ten years in jail. In Maryland, the maximum penalty for homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence is 5 years and is one of the lowest penalties in the nation. This legislation is the top priority for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and has been identified as important legislation by Advocates for Auto and Highway Safety.

Enhanced Penalties for Adults Who Host Underage Drinking Parties –Criminal Law – Providing Alcohol to Underage Drinkers

LeottaDelegate Fraser-Hildago has drafted legislation that adds a penalty of one-year maximum in jail and increases the already existing maximum fine amount from $2,500 to $5,000 for a first offense for providing alcohol to those who are underage. For a subsequent offense, the legislation would increase the existing maximum fine from $5,000 to $7,500 and add a penalty of a maximum of two years in jail.

Civil Action – Wrongful Selling or Furnishing Alcoholic Beverages (Dram Shop Laws)

Delegate Dumais has drafted legislation that would allow a victim’s family to seek civil action against an establishment and/or an individual who wrongfully sells or furnishes alcohol to a person. This law exists in several other states but does not exist in Maryland.

Additional Traffic-Related Laws Related to DUI that the Department Supports

Delegate Fraser-Hidalgo proposes enhancing the Negligent Driving law. Currently, a person who drives negligently and causes the death of another is issued a pre-payable traffic citation for negligent driving; the person never has to appear in court. This new legislation requires that a person who drives negligently and causes the death of another person to appear in court.

Phoenix, Ariz. — State detectives are still combing through the tragic details related to the rear-end crash that claimed the life of 57-year-old motorcyclist Dennis Oddo, a valley resident.

The collision occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on Monday, February 16, when 33-year-old Leith Monroe was driving the car that struck Dennis Oddo as he was riding to work on his Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound along I-17 near Happy Valley Road. Mr. Oddo succumbed to his injuries at Honor Health North Mountain Hospital about two hours later.

The impact also forced the motorcycle and Mr. Oddo into the right dirt shoulder, a considerable distance from the point of impact. Monroe continued driving for a tenth of a mile before stopping near the Pinnacle Peak Road off-ramp.

A witness stopped with Mr. Oddo to render first aid and CPR until the Phoenix Fire Department arrived on scene and took over. That is when Mr. Oddo was transported to the hospital with mortal wounds.

Monroe was combative and overall uncooperative with state troopers and detectives. She was taken into custody and booked into the county jail under charges of 2nd-degree murder and criminal damage. The DUI portion of the investigation is still underway.

“The message ‘if you see something, say something’ has never been more appropriate as this case. If you see erratic driving, call it in. Get a police officer or trooper the information to find and stop these drivers before they crash and kill other people, and tragically change lives forever,” said Sgt. Alan Haywood, a supervising detective with the Vehicular Crimes Unit (VCU).

Leith Monroe DWI fatal crash Maricopa County Sheriff Prior Offender

A woman involved in a Phoenix freeway wreck that left a motorcyclist dead was driving drunk at the time of the crash, according to Arizona Department of Public Safety officials.

Leith Monroe, 33, is facing charges of second-degree murder and driving while under the influence after her car rear-ended a motorcycle early Tuesday morning on Interstate 17 near Happy Valley Road, according to court documents.

The motorcyclist, Dennis Oddo, 57, died at a hospital from his injuries.

DPS troopers found several empty bottles of alcohol in Monroe’s car at the scene. A witness to the crash said Monroe appeared to “stumble around” when she got out of her car.

Troopers said Monroe resisted arrest and attempted to take the needle out of her arm when receiving a blood test.

Monroe, of the Many Farms community on the Navajo Reservation, has a prior history of DUI charges and resisting arrest, according to court documents. Her driver’s license had been suspended for a DUI conviction.    .…MORE
