(July 18, 2015) —  Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash on SW 185th Ave. near SW Rigert Rd. Two people were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was arrested for DUII and other charges.

On Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 1:03 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies were called to a single-vehicle crash on SW 185th Avenue north of SW Rigert Road in the community of Aloha. A single vehicle lost control on a curve, left the roadway and turned over.

The driver, Joshaua Farnsworth (30 years old from Beaverton) and the male adult passenger were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies investigating the case determined that Farnsworth had been drinking heavily prior to the crash.

A deputy responded to the hospital where he was being treated and arrested Farnsworth for DUII, Assault 4, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering another Person. Because he was being treated in the hospital he was issued a citation to appear in court at a later date.

Alaska: DUI driver Xeng Yang twice legal limit for booze and positive for pot in Eagle River crash; Yong Lor died

Blood alcohol level of DUI driver was twice the legal limit reports KTUU

Blood alcohol level of DUI driver was twice the legal limit reports KTUU

UPDATE from KTUU

Police say 22-year-old Xeng Yang’s blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit when his car struck an oncoming Toyota Rav4 at 70 mph May 27 on the Old Glenn Highway.  The crash killed a passenger in the Subaru, Yong Lor, who was also 22.

Two others in the Rav4 suffered minor injuries. Yang was taken to an Anchorage hospital after the crash. Blood samples showed his blood-alcohol level to be 0.159 — compared to the legal limit of 0.08 — about 45 minutes after the collision, according to charges filed Wednesday in District Court.

Yang, who was being held Monday at the Anchorage jail, also tested positive for the presence of cannabinoids, police say.

The crash was first reported at 8:16 p.m. near the Old Glenn Highway intersection with Del’s Lane.

According to Anchorage Police, on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 8:17PM, Anchorage Police responded to a fatal car collision in Eagle River which occurred on the Old Glenn Highway near Monastery Drive.  A 2003 white Subaru Legacy, driven by 22-year-old Xeng Yang, was traveling northbound on the Old Glenn Highway when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a 2012 blue Toyota Rav4 which was traveling southbound.  The Subaru burst into flames.

The passenger in the Subaru, 22-year-old Yong Lor, died at the scene.  Xeng Yang was transported to a local hospital, and at the time of this release, is still hospitalized.  The extent of his injuries is not yet known.  Due to the damage done to the Subaru, it was not readily apparent whether or not either Yang or Lor were wearing their seatbelts.  That is a question that will hopefully be answered during the vehicle examination.  Alcohol and speed are suspected contributing factors to the crash.

The two occupants of the Toyota were both wearing their seatbelts. They did go to the hospital on their own to get checked for minor injuries related to the seatbelts and airbag deployment.

Police Traffic Investigators worked the scene, and re-opened the highway at 12:58AM Thursday morning.  No citations or charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is still on-going.  As this particular car crash demonstrates, Anchorage Police remind the public that not only is wearing a safety belt the law, but it absolutely saves lives.  Anchorage Police are currently running a grant-funded Click-it-or-Ticket campaign from May 18th through the 31st.

Burlington Police Officer Leanne Werner killed Omer Martin in DUI fatalAccording to Chief Gary Taylor of the St. Albans Police Department, on July 18, 2015 the St. Albans Police Department was notified that Omer Martin had passed away due to health complications following the motor vehicle crash he was involved in on July 12, 2015 on Lower Newton Road in St. Albans Town. Mr. Martin was hospitalized at the University of Vermont Medical Center where he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the crash. An autopsy will be conducted on either Sunday July 19 or Monday July 20. The charges against Leanne Werner are expected to be upgraded at arraignment Monday.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

On July 12, 2015 at approximately 1716 hours, the St. Albans Police Department responded to Lower Newton Road in the vicinity of Brigham Road, for the report of a two car motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Upon arrival, Officer’s observed numerous first responders tending to the operators, and passenger, of both vehicles.

The operator of a 2012 Ford Escape was identified as Leanne Werner, 30, of St. Albans. She was extricated from her vehicle, without serious injury. The operator of the second vehicle, a 2009 Kia Sedona, was identified as Omer Martin, 74, of St. Albans. The wife of Omer, Jane Martin, 73, also of St. Albans was a passenger in his vehicle. Both Martins were extricated from their vehicle, and transported to Northwestern Medical with serious injuries. The St. Albans Police Department later discovered Mr. Martin was transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. He was listed in serious, but stable condition.

Initial investigation indicates Werner crossed the double yellow line heading West on Lower Newton Road, causing a head on crash with the vehicle operated by Martin. Werner was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol as well as grossly negligent operation. Werner was processed at the St. Albans Police Department, and issued a citation to appear at court on July 20, 2015 at 1300 hours.

From Burlington Free Press

An off-duty Burlington police officer, suspended due to drunken driving allegations, is expected to face more serious criminal charges Monday after one of two elderly people she struck died, St. Albans Police said Sunday.

Omer Martin, 74, of St. Albans died at University of Vermont Medical Center on Saturday, Lt. Ron Hoague said in a news release.

“The charges against Leanne Werner are expected to be upgraded at arraignment Monday,” he wrote. The exact nature of the new charges in Vermont Superior Court were unavailable.

Werner was initially ordered to appear in court on charges of DUI and gross negligent operation. Both of those charges could have been felony counts due to the serious nature of the injuries.

Burlington Deputy Police Chief Jannine Wright, the city’s acting chief, said in an email Sunday that her department had been made aware that Martin had died Saturday “as a direct result of the traffic crash” a week ago.

Steve Romeo killed four women in DUI crash into Limo Suffolk Co NY 071915

From PX11

CUTCHOGUE, N.Y. — Police have released the identities of the victims of Saturday’s limousine crash in Cutchogue that killed four people and injured five people.

The victims who were killed in the crash were Brittany Schulman, 23, and Lauren Baruch, 24, both from Smithtown; Stephanie Belli, 23, of Kings Park; and Amy Grabina, 23, of Commack.

Injured in the crash were Joelle Dimonte, 25, of Elwood; Melissa Angela Crai, 23, of Scarsdale; Alicia Arundel, 24, of Setauket; and Olga Lipets, 24, of Brooklyn. The limousine’s driver, Carlos Pino, 58, of Bethpage was also injured.

According to a friend of Stephanie Belli, the women were on their way back from a birthday party at Vineyard 48 in Cutchogue when their limousine was T-boned by a pickup truck.

A Southold business man has been arrested and charged with DWI in the fatal limousine crash that killed four New York area women.

According to The Suffolk Times,  Steven Romeo, 55,  has been charged with DWI. He is the co-owner of a local marine contracting company called Romeo Dimon Marine service. Romeo was also involved in another fatal accident in January 2014, when a bucket fell off a skid-steer loader, operated by Romeo, killed a 30-year-old worker.

MORE

From New York Daily News

The driver of the pickup truck that T-boned a limousine on a Long Island road and killed four young women admitted he drank a few beers before the collision — and tried to get away by climbing a fence, officials said.

Steven Romeo, 58, stayed at the crash site in Cutchogue for about 15 minutes on Saturday, at one point talking to police. But then he walked about 1,000 feet away, climbed over a 6-foot fence and shimmied down a steep embankment, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota told reporters.

A cop heading to the crash at the intersection of County Route 48 and Depot Lane saw Romeo and ordered him to stop. Romeo initially kept walking, but he ultimately surrendered, Spota said.

After his arrest, Romeo admitted that he boozed up as he did some work at his home before the wreck near the Vineyard 48 winery on the North Fork of Long Island. ….MORE

From FTVLive

Seems like more and more TV news people are getting busted for DUI these days. But this is the first time that we know of that two on air talent from the same station are arrested for driving drunk in the span of 2 days.

and driving on the wrong side of the street early Saturday morning.

The day before, WHO Reporter Erik Wheater, 25, was charged with first-offense OWI early Friday morning.

Police pulled over the vehicle Wheater was driving near Second and Court avenues for not having a front license plate, authorities said.

Heitshusen, 47, of Des Moines was stopped shortly after 1 a.m. near Fifth Avenue and Walnut Street.

She at first refused to exit her vehicle and refused any field sobriety tests or a preliminary breath test, authorities said.

Heitshusen had bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech and swayed and staggered as she stood, according to Des Moines police reports.

At the Des Moines police station, she stumbled and had to use the wall of the OWI testing room for balance and appeared to fumble and have trouble using her phone when she tried to place calls, police reports show.

Heitshusen again refused to take a breath test and was taken to the Polk County Jail, authorities said.

As for Wheater, cops say he seemed unsteady on his feet and fumbled looking for his license, registration and insurance, according to police reports. He failed several field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test showed a .125 percent blood alcohol level. ….MORE

Both WHO TV news reporters plead guilty to impaired driving

From Des Moines Register:

A long-time Des Moines television reporter and anchor arrested for drunk driving over the summer has pleaded guilty to the charge, court records show.

Sonya Heitshusen, a WHO-TV reporter, entered a plea agreement for the charge of first-offense operating while intoxicated. The charge, to which she originally entered a not-guilty plea, stemmed from a June 7 incident.

The court agreed to statutory minimums of the charge and waived probation if Heitshusen attends a 48-hour operating while intoxicated course and pays fines, her attorney Colt Moss said Tuesday.

Mark Mullins Indianapolis TV reporter busted for OWI in Indy driving his BMW

An Indianapolis newscaster was arrested in Downtown Indianapolis early Saturday morning and charged with drunken driving.

Marc Mullins, an anchor at WRTV-6, was driving a silver BMW when he was pulled over at about 2 a.m., after he made an illegal turn at the intersection of Meridian and Washington streets, according to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

According to the report, the officer said that he “observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage” on Mullins and coming from his vehicle.

Mullins, 38, was given an initial field breath test and registered a blood alcohol content of .072, the report said, slightly under the level of 0.08 at which a driver in Indiana is considered to be legally drunk.

Police then transported Mullins to where a certified breath machine was located.

After several attempts, Mullins then registered a BAC of 0.113 and was arrested and initially charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

He was taken into custody by Marion County Sheriff’s deputies ….MORE

WDAY-TV reporter Kiersten “Kay” Cooley was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Minnesota on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Forum News Service reports.

Kiersten Cooley DUI arrest for Fargo TV reporter

The 25-year-old Cooley was pulled over around 5:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 10 just west of Lake Park, Forum says, after a citizen’s complaint; a breath test showed she had a blood alcohol level of 0.19. The legal limit in Minnesota is 0.08.

An assistant administrator at the Becker County Jail tells BringMeTheNews that Cooley was released at 4:41 a.m. Wednesday “when she was sober.”

WDAY-TV – which is owned by Forum Communication – declined to comment, but did air a story about the arrest.

One Facebook user asked the station about that choice on the WDAY Facebook page.

“If it were just a regular citizen getting this, you wouldn’t air it and make a story out of it … why is it different for her?” the user wrote.

Another user responded, speculating that public figures usually get more scrutiny. Indeed, news reporters, who often cover DUI charges against public officials, tend to get more scrutiny when they themselves face charges. ….MORE
