2014-01-14 — Riverside Sheriff’s Department reports that on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at about 1:30 AM, officers of the Rancho Mirage Police Department responded to the intersection of Highway 111 and Bob Hope Dr., Rancho Mirage in regards to a single vehicle traffic collision.
This investigation determined that Gamaliel Sosa, age 24 of Indio, failed to negotiate a northbound turn onto Bob Hope Dr. from Highway 111. Sosa drove over the center median of Bob Hope Dr., struck a tree, a small wall, an upright lane directional sign, and came to rest on the northwest corner of the intersection. Sosa was found have been operating the involved motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Sosa was arrested for driving under the influence and booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
On Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. officers from the Palm Desert Police Department responded to California Drive and Michigan Drive, in reference to a traffic collision. The driver of a white GMC truck was traveling eastbound on California Drive just passing Michigan Drive. The driver of the GMC truck drove onto the sidewalk and collided into the front gate of the Palm Desert Country Club Villas at 77185 California Drive.
The investigation revealed that alcohol was a factor during this traffic collision. The driver of the GMC truck, Travis Pierce, age 32 from Palm Desert, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and booked into Riverside County Jail in the city of Indio. Pierce suffered no injuries as a result of the collision. Nobody else was injured as a result of this collision.
