Delaware: Ryan Ott locked up for 5th DWI arrest

NEW CASTLE, DEL. – The citizens of Delaware are living the life predicted by H. L. Mencken one hundred years ago when he said: “The common man knows what he wants, and he deserves to get it good and hard.”

Years of electing liberals to an office where lenient Judges are appointed to hand out lenient sentences allow for a parade of criminals to be released on the streets and for impaired drivers to rack up one DWI arrest after another without fear of incarceration.

The Delaware State Police report that they have arrested a Newark man with his 5th offense DUI after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash.

Police say that the incident occurred on Friday, January 19, 2018, at approximately 6:44 p.m. when Troopers were dispatched to the intersection of Llangollen Blvd and US-13 in reference to a crash involving two motor vehicles.

The Trooper’s investigation revealed that a 2017 Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on Llangollen Boulevard in the left lane approaching the entrance to South Dupont Highway.  A 1992 Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on Llangollen Boulevard and began to cross over the eastbound lanes of travel into the path of the Ford F-150.  Subsequently, the front of the Jeep struck the left side of the Ford F-150.

Upon the Troopers arrival, the occupant of the Jeep was still seated in the driver’s seat. Contact was made with the operator, identified as 52-year-old Ryan P. Ott of Newark.  An odor of alcohol was detected, and a DUI investigation ensued.

Delaware State Police report that their computer check revealed that Ott had four previous DUI convictions, making this his fifth offense.  Ott was subsequently arrested and transported back to Troop 2 where he was charged with 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (Felony) and Inattentive Driving.  He was arraigned out of Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $5,000.00 cash only bond.

There were no injuries reported as a result of this crash.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced deputies charged 22 people with DWI offenses in 13 days

This special enforcement period was conducted February 2-14, 2018, and it was coordinated and funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reports the arrest for the 4TH DWI of Dana Bouzigard.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Dana Bouzigard (age 48) of Larose for her fourth DWI offense. Just after 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, deputies traveling along LA Highway 308 in Larose observed a truck traveling across the center line. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Dana Bouzigard. While speaking to Bouzigard, deputies detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Bouzigard submitted to a field sobriety test on which she performed poorly. A breathalyzer test showed her to have a blood alcohol content of .087g%. She was arrested and charged with WI (4th Offense) and improper lane usage. She was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Her bond is set at $50,100.

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is off to a great start in Lafourche Parish after deputies charged four individuals with DWI in the first three days. The campaign runs February 2-14, 2018, and it is coordinated and funded by the National Traffic Safety Administration and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

Rustin Guidry arrested for DWI by Lafourche Sheriff Deputy on Feb. 2, 2018, BAC .15 2nd DWI offense in one year

The first incident occurred on Friday, February 2, at about 10:20 p.m. when deputies observed a vehicle swerve in and out of the lane of travel along LA Highway 3185 in Thibodaux. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Rustin Guidry. Guidry was exhibiting signs of possible intoxication. Deputies conducted a field sobriety test on which Guidry performed poorly. A breathalyzer test showed Guidry to have a blood alcohol content of .152g%. Deputies also learned Guidry had been arrested for his first DWI offense in March 2017, and his license was still suspended. Guidry was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was charged with DWI (2nd Offense), driving under suspension, and improper lane usage. He was released after posting $1,050 bond.

The following individuals were also charged with DWI (1st Offense) over the weekend: Laura Honeycutt (age 56) of Lockport; Vicki Luquette (age 39) of Thibodaux; and Nat Alario (age 49) of Cut Off.

Whether attending a parade or a party, or drinking at an establishment, Sheriff Craig Webre reminds citizens to NEVER drive if you have had anything to drink containing alcohol.

“Before you leave your home, you should have a designated driver or a plan to avoid driving altogether,” said Sheriff Webre. “During the Carnival season, we have many more people on the roadways and many more children near the roadways, especially around parade routes. It is NEVER a good decision to drink and drive, but making that decision at this time of year could be even more catastrophic. Please consider your family and innocent bystanders who could be harmed or even killed by such an irresponsible decision which can always be avoided.”

Remember that driving under the influence of narcotics, even some legal medications, can also impair your ability to drive and lead to a DWI arrest. Always read warning labels and instructions on prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Sheriff Craig Webre applauded the efforts of deputies during this period. “Following this campaign, our deputies have now charged 41 people with DWI in the first 45 days of 2018,” said Sheriff Webre. “While these numbers are evidence of the tenacity of our deputies, it is also disappointing that so many are still making the choice to drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol.”

“All these individuals now have to deal with the costs and stigma associated with a DWI charge,” continued Sheriff Webre. “Thankfully, they were caught before they hurt themselves or others. We hope they each learn from their mistake, and we hope others see this and make the right decision moving forward. Always have a plan to get home safely before you take that first drink.”

Gerardo Lopez sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison for DWI manslaughter death of Sherrie Ann McKinney

Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig announced that on February 22, 2018, Yolo County Superior Court Judge Timothy Fall sentenced Gerardo Lopez, a 23 year-old-resident of West Sacramento to 6 years 8 month in State Prison for causing the death of 37-year-old Sherrie Ann McKinney. On January 24, 2018, Lopez pled no contest to Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Driving Under The Influence and Driving Under The Influence Causing Injury. Lopez was driving with a blood-alcohol percentage of 0.17, over twice the legal limit.

On May 30, 2017, Lopez was driving from Woodland to West Sacramento. Lopez had been spotted driving recklessly on I-5 in Woodland before exiting at Old River Road headed towards West Sacramento.

Once Lopez turned onto West Capitol Avenue in West Sacramento he reached speeds of 88 miles per hour, nearly twice the speed limit and at one point entering the opposing lane of traffic. Lopez then ran a red light at the intersection of I-80 and West Capitol Avenue. As Lopez was running the red light he was driving at a speed of 82 miles per hour. Victim Sherrie Ann McKinney had been waiting patiently at the crosswalk for the “walk” signal. After the “walk” signal turned Ms. McKinney made it only a few yards into the crosswalk Lopez stuck her with his car killing her almost immediately.

Sherrie McKinney killed on May 30, 2017, by Gerardo Lopez, 23, of West Sacremento on Jan. 24, 2018 he was sentenced to prison for 6 years and 8 months

Lopez then crashed his truck into the back of another car causing a back injury to the driver, Oscar Hernandez. Lopez then swerved his truck over a curb, he went into the opposing lane of traffic, ran through a traffic sign, entered a park and ride lot, and then crashed into an unoccupied car. After crashing his truck Lopez quickly began to gather his property and was preparing to flee the scene on a bicycle that had been in the truck bed. However, law enforcement responded quickly and detained Lopez. Inside of the truck officers found an empty child safety seat and marijuana scattered throughout the interior. Lopez had a blood alcohol content of 0.17.

At the sentencing, Sherrie McKinney was described as a person with a heart of gold who cared deeply about helping others. District Attorney Jeff Reisig said “The defendant’s decision has taken away a daughter and a friend. Ms. McKinney did everything she was supposed to that evening when her life was taken.

This case highlights how misdemeanor DUI conduct can change in a second and leave an unhealable scar for a victim’s family.”

News-Herald Reporter

PANAMA CITY — Despite his attempts to convince the jury otherwise, Cody Austin Shirah was convicted Thursday of drunkenly plowing through a stop sign in September 2016 and killing four visiting Ohio softball players.

Immediately after receiving the verdict, Circuit Judge Michael Overstreet sentenced 22-year-old Shirah to 60 years in prison and accepted part of the blame for releasing Shirah on drug offender probation only months before the fatal crash.

Shirah wept as each family called for the maximum punishment: life in prison.

It took jurors about two and a half hours to find Shirah guilty as charged of fleeing the scene a crash, four counts of DUI manslaughter and a count of DUI with bodily injury. After hearing the verdict, Overstreet also heard statements from the family members of the four victims — Anthony Gouge, 30, Eric Young, 25, William Gouge II, 29, and Josh Martin, 33, all of Ohio — about how the crash has changed their lives.

Obituary for Joshua Lee Chase Martin

Joshua Martin killed by DUI driver Cody Shirah in Panama City Fla. on Sept. 19, 2016

Joshua Lee Chase Martin, age 33 of Columbus, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on September 19th, 2016. Josh came into this world on June 15, 1983. Born the jubilant son of Daniel Wayne Martin and Sherry Linette Martin (Reeser), Josh was a fun-loving kid with an innate passion that was known by his family early on. That passion was sports, and he fell in love with anything that involved a ball. At the young age of two, he would sit and attentively watch High School Basketball games with his family. By the age of seven, he was keeping detailed scorecards of his favorite teams. Josh, even though he did not care for soccer, played for a few years until he was old enough for football. His reason was he didn’t want to be without a ball and a team to play with. His love for sports followed him throughout his life, especially in his adolescent years. Josh graduated from Circleville High School in 2001, and by the time he graduated he had made Varsity for the Football, Basketball, and Baseball teams. He attended Wilmington College for two years on a Baseball Scholarship. Josh continued to be an asset to Circleville City Schools as he coached Basketball for 3 victorious years. He loved kids and loved to teach children valuable skills in athletics. Josh would work for Acorn Distributors for eleven years, enjoying working with his father. In his free time, he loved being part of his softball league, playing with his best friends and often winning. Joshua was so full of life and was able to put a smile on anyone’s face. His loss is a tragic blow to those who knew him. Josh is preceded in death by his grandfather Donald Eldridge and his uncle Paul Doersam. Left to mourn his passing are his loving parents; Sherry (Luke) and Dan (Mary) his adoring sisters; Jessica (Dustin) Redman and Jordan (Jacob) Vangundy. His nephews, or his “little dudes”; Carson Redman, Hayden Redman, Harper Redman, and Wyatt VanGundy. Josh loved those boys dearly, and those boys adored their Uncle Josh. Also mourning the loss of this young man are his beloved grandparents; Linda Martin and Bob and Jo Reeser, as well as his Aunt Michele (Ted) Morse and five close cousins. Josh will be especially missed by his brothers from Xtreme Softball, who were there for Josh and continue to be there for his family, as well as many close friends. His girlfriend Angel Runion and her son Dom Turner, whom Josh raised as his own, will also miss Joshua dearly. Josh was a ball of light for those around him, and his good nature and positivity are summed up in one of his favorite quotes, “You make your own luck.” Arrangements have been entrusted to Defenbaugh-Wise Schoedinger funeral home.

DUI/DRIVER’S LICENSE CHECKPOINT NETS 1 ARREST AND 9 CITATIONS
Woodland, CA – the Woodland Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on December 29, 2017, on East Main Street east of Thomas Street between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

In recent years, California has seen a disturbing increase in drug-impaired driving crashes.  The Woodland Police Department supports the new effort from the Office of Traffic Safety that aims to educate all drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.”  If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI.  Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI

Studies of California drivers have shown that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.

The checkpoint yielded the following results:

-503 Vehicles Screened

-1 DUI-Alcohol suspect arrested

-9 Drivers cited/arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended/revoked

Drivers are encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP, or “DDVIP,” free mobile app for Android or iPhone.  The DDVIP app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver, from free non-alcoholic drinks to free appetizers and more.  The feature-packed app even has social media tie-ins and even a tab for the non-DD to call Uber, Lyft or Curb.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses that can exceed $10,000 not to mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1’.

On February 24, 2018, at 6:38 PM, Newport News Communications received a call of an accident in the 1100 block of Old Denbigh Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles involved in a crash.

Police say that their preliminary investigation revealed that a 29-year-old Newport News woman was driving a black sedan northbound on Old Denbigh Boulevard when she was struck by a gray sedan traveling eastbound from Woodside Lane.

The gray sedan was being driven by Anais Dymaris Perez, 31, of Alexandria, Va.
The 12-year-old male was transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Newport News Police Department Crash Team Unit is investigating this accident.A 12-year-old male passenger was also riding in the gray vehicle. The two adult female drivers were transported by medics to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Annisa Perez posted this message on her Facebook page:
This hurts to my soul even reading about my own family. But it hurts that an angel had to leave us. Please read this and understand that your children come first before anything and no drink is ever worth the safety or life of your child. It only takes one moment, and those we take for granted are gone forever.
RIP to Gianni. He was the 1st born grandchild in our family. More than a nephew to me, he was like a brother. We grew up together and I always made sure my kids grew up close with him, as well. I’ve never lost someone so close to me and I still cannot fathom the idea of never being able to see nor speak to this wonderful child again. He was a fighter and such an admirable child, so much potential with only 12 years of life on this Earth. I will always love you and you’re always going to live on in our hearts.

ILLINOIS: Police charged Jose Loredo with killing his passenger when he drove off Kishwaukee Valley Road and into tree; faces felony DUI death

Jose Loredo charged with DUI death in crash that killed his passenger in McHenry County ILL. (2)

A 29-year-old Rockford woman is dead following a single-vehicle crash in the 17600 block of Kishwaukee Valley Road, in unincorporated Seneca Township.

Jamie Webb sent to prison for 14 years for DUI murder of Michael Collins

In one moment your decision changes lives. Decatur High School (Federal Way, WA) students Nicholas Hodgins and Derek King were killed alongside I-5 when a driver made the decision to drive drunk. They would have graduated in three days.

NOTICE: This database of the DWI Hit Parade is a great FREE resource for credit managers, law enforcement and background investigations for private sector as well as government screenings of prospective employees. Those who are impaired are advised not to drive after ingesting drugs or alcohol as doing so and being arrested can cause serious negative experiences for obtaining employment…and could kill someone. If your name appears on this site and you believe you have proper cause to have it removed, provide such information to staff@clean-search.com to determine eligibility for complete removal from this listing.
If you have killed someone and been convicted of being responsible for that death while operating impaired, don’t bother. The engravings of the names of victims of impaired drivers are forever on grave markers.
