A GoFundMe account has been established by Mr. Jefferson’s family, to help with funeral expenses.

My daddy, Alonza Jefferson Jr., was taken from us suddenly and unexpectedly in a tragic car accident cause by a drunk driver. I lieu of this, my family is having financial needs that can’t be met on our own regarding his funeral and memorial services. A new policy at the funeral home my daddy wanted to be taken to requires payment upfront before taking on services. We were not expecting this and now have to graciously and thankfully ask for any and all help that anyone may be able to offer. My family is hurting, we lost our backbone of the family, he was our glue and led our family so strongly and with so much pride. We want to give my dad a beautiful service and fulfill his wishes for this unfortunate event in our lives. I ask that if you can, any donation is so greatly appreciated and helps my family tremendously. We love my daddy so much and we know he is happy and safe and at home with our Heavenly Father. Thank you all so much for your love and support during this time. We love each and every one of you.

Police say that Route 19 was re-opened by 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.

Prince George’s County, Md., Police Officer Battle arrested Donnells on Oct. 13, 2016 at 4:39 am on Glendale Blvd. at Daisy Lane, near where Donnells maintains another address in Maryland, at 12330 Daisy Lane. Donnells was charged with DUI while operating a 2001 Mazda. In that arrest, he was also charged with failing to control his speed to avoid a wreck.

In yet another DUI arrest, on Sept. 22, 1999, Donnells appealed in Prince Georges Circuit Court in Maryland a DUI conviction. On Oct. 8, 1999, Donnells failed to appear in court. On Feb. 3, 2000, Donnells was recorded as being in jail and on May 16, 2000, Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Martha G. Kavanaugh sentenced Donnells to one year in jail with eight months and eight days suspended and supervised probation for one year. Debra Dwyer of Rockville was the attorney for Donnells.  A charge violation of probation was brought on Aug. 8, 2002, which Judge S. Michael Pincus dismissed. Judge Pincus had earlier sent Donnells to the Silver Spring, Md., Outpatient Treatment Program and to abide by all terms and conditions of probation as set forth in the probation contract. Court records show the case was closed satisfactorily on Aug. 14, 2002.

Donnells formerly lived on Chisolm Landing Way in North Potomac in Montgomery County where he was charged in burglary, theft and drug arrests in that county.

Two warrants for theft over $300 against Donnells were served on March 28, 1994, and in a plea bargain with the Montgomery County, Md. States Attorney on May 19, 1994, the charge was dropped with no fine and no time. Attorney Barry H. Helfand represented Donnells. Five criminal charges including malicious property destruction, battery, rogue and vagabond, and theft over $300 were dropped as part of the pleas on associated charges in the District Court of Montgomery County, Md., on the same date with Donnells pleading guilty to theft over $300. In the plea deal, Donnells was sentenced to eighteen months in jail with one year suspended and credit given for time served prior to his trial of 43 days. Donnells was put on probation until Sept. 7, 1996.

A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was placed by Montgomery County Police Officer B. Trahan on Oct. 19, 1998, and in a plea deal with the Montgomery County States Attorney in District Court on May 17, 1999, Donnells entered a guilty plea and was fined $500 with $250 of the fine suspended and no time in jail.

Results of Santa Rosa DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint

Santa Rosa, CA – The Santa Rosa Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, December 30, 2016, in Santa Rosa between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. The checkpoint was located on Stony Point Road near Stony Circle. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries. A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Ninety Percent of California drivers approve of checkpoints.

Listed below is the statistical information for this checkpoint:

New Rochelle Police Officer Harry Kyreakedes charged with DWI vehicular manslaughter; killed Isaac Ward

From New York Post

Prosecutors say a police officer was off-duty and drunk when he crashed his vehicle into a tree in a suburb north of New York City, killing a friend who was riding with him.

Twenty-seven-year-old Harry Kyreakedes was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated following the Monday morning accident in White Plains that claimed the life of 27-year-old Isaac Ward.

David Chong, the Westchester County city’s public safety commissioner, said Kyreakedes had a blood-alcohol content of 0.23 percent when he crashed his Jeep into a tree around 3 a.m.

Kyreakedes had a blood-alcohol content of 0.23 percent when he crashed his Jeep into a tree around 3 a.m.

Ward was unresponsive when he was rushed to White Plains Hospital Center, where he later died. Kyreakedes underwent surgery for serious injuries to his legs.

Kyreakedes joined the city of New Rochelle Police Department about a year ago. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.  MORE

From LoHud.com

Killer and Ward were best buddies

Ward and Kyreakedes, both from Beacon Hill Drive in Dobbs Ferry, were longtime friends and 2007 graduates of Dobbs Ferry High School. Ward’s death and his pal’s arrest jolted the tight-knit community. Several friends and ex-classmates reached on Facebook and by phone said they were uncomfortable speaking for attribution in deference to both families.

They all referred to Ward by his nickname, Hooshie, and recalled his good nature and sense of humor. Some worked with him on village recreation programs, others grew up with him on Beacon Hill.

Police said it appeared that Kyreakedes was driving toward downtown White Plains when he crashed into the tree just outside CVS between Rutherford and Livingston avenues. Where the two had been before and whether either were wearing seat belts are still under investigation, Detective Lt. Eric Fischer said Tuesday.

Flowers, memorial candles, and several items with the logo of Ward’s beloved New York Yankees marked the base of the tree Monday.

Officer to be suspended

Kyreakedes was placed on administrative leave and would be suspended once departmental charges are filed, said Deputy Commissioner Joseph Schaller.

He was hired in July 2015 and graduated from the Westchester County Police Academy in December. His year in uniform included a month of local training and his probationary period concluded in October. Schaller said there was “nothing noteworthy” in Kyreakedes’ conduct and performance since he became a cop.

Thomas Powell sentenced to three years in prison on drug charges

ELLSWORTH, Maine (2009) — A Hancock man who assaulted a police officer has been sent to prison to serve three years behind bars for a previous drug conviction.

Thomas A. Powell III, 20, had been participating in drug court after having been convicted of trafficking in cocaine in 2007. Powell had not met his requirements as a drug court participant when, on Nov. 17, a Hancock County deputy sheriff saw him at Gott’s Store in Southwest Harbor.

Deputy Rob Morang went to place Powell under arrest but Powell allegedly assaulted the officer, punching him in the face before fleeing on foot into the woods behind the store. Officers with seven area law enforcement agencies, including a Maine State Police trooper and a police dog, went to the scene. With the help of the state police dog, officers caught Powell in the woods about an hour later and took him to jail in Ellsworth.

In early 2007, Powell twice drove a Sullivan man to Bangor so the other man could purchase cocaine, according to documents filed in Hancock County Superior Court. On the second occasion, while Powell was driving the man back to Ellsworth from Bangor, they were stopped by police, who found approximately 1 ounce of cocaine in the car and about $900 in cash that previously had been identified by police for use in a controlled drug purchase, the documents indicate.  MORE
