WOODLAND, CA – A pedestrian who died after being struck in a hit and run overnight was identified by the Yolo County coroner as a 53-year-old Douglas W. Gatie of Woodland.
Gatie was hit by a car at 304 Main Street approximately a little after 1 Monday morning. The driver fled and emergency medical responders pronounced Gatie dead at the scene at 1:25 a.m., according to Woodland police Sgt. Darren Imus.
Police officers found a license plate where Gatie was hit and commenced a search for the hit and run vehicle. It was found parked on First St. North of Laurel St. About about 2:20 a.m., Imus said. The driver of the car was directed to get out but refused to comply, Imus said. Officers forcibly removed 19-year-old Ivan Martinez of Woodland and detained him.
